Moving Forward, Looking Back

We founded Crixa Cakes in 1998. We wanted to create a bakery that provided the wonderful not-too-sweet cakes and pastries that we grew up with.

Our goal was to provide high quality old world Hungarian, Russian, Central European, and American desserts to the San Francisco Bay Area region. At Crixa Cakes bakery and cafe, we offer these cakes and pastries scratch-baked on-site, as well as fine coffees and teas.

Our influences are long family histories of baking and cooking in the Hungarian and Russian traditions. We are also inspired by the classic cafes and bakeries of Central Europe.

Initially, we provided cakes, pastries, pies and cookies wholesale to East Bay restaurants, cafes, and caterers from our small commercial kitchen in the Fruitvale district of Oakland, California.

In 2000, we moved to our present location in Berkeley, California and opened our bakery and cafe. We added retail bakery, coffee and tea products.

As we look ahead, we are excited about the future of Crixa Cakes. We are planning for continued growth, quality products, and satisfied customers. We also keep looking back, to good simple ingredients, to when cafes were social institutions, and to the recipes that ignited the taste-buds of our families and yours.
